Allied Health Manager (0.6 -0.8 FTE)

Note: This is an interim position for Maternity Leave coverage.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual passionate about promoting health and wellness equity in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) to join Kilala Lelum Health and Wellness Cooperative as a Allied Health Manager (Interim). Kilala Lelum aims to provide members (patients) with access to decolonized primary care, Allied Health services, and Elder-led cultural care through an outreach-based, culturally-safe, strength-based, trauma-informed, member-centered, and harm reduction approach.

Job Summary:

The Allied Health Manager (0.6 – 0.8 FTE) will lead the Social Navigation team (our reimagined version of Social Work) to ensure the compassionate, ethical, and culturally-safe support of members accessing social support and Kilala Lelum’s other programs and services. This role will work closely with the interdisciplinary care team, including Indigenous Elders, Physicians, Nurses, Counsellors, and Outreach Workers, while reporting to the Allied Lead. The manager will provide oversight, coordination, and strategic leadership to ensure the Social Navigation team operates efficiently and effectively in alignment with Kilala Lelum’s values and goals.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to the Social Navigation team, including Social Navigators and Social Navigation Outreach Workers.
  • Oversee team operations, including workload distribution, team performance, and professional development.
  • Management of department budget.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular team debriefings, ensuring staff are supported in their roles and challenges are addressed proactively.
  • Collaborate with the Allied Lead to support the strategic direction and operational efficiency of the Social Navigation program.
  • Oversee member referrals to the Social Navigation team, assigning members to appropriate Social Navigators or other healthcare providers based on their needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of care plans, ensuring smooth transitions between services while leveraging the expertise of interdisciplinary team members.
  • Provide oversight for the Social Navigation drop-in program, ensuring its effective operation and alignment with member needs.
  • Manage and coordinate case conferences, review member files, and ensure compliance with documentation and reporting standards.
  • Act as a back-up reviewer for Reaching Home files and Social Navigation spending, ensuring accountability and appropriate resource allocation.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance relationships with internal staff and external partners through a foundation of cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, and harm reduction principles.
  • Identify and address gaps in service delivery and make recommendations for program improvements.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor of Social Work required and/or Master of Social Work strongly preferred, plus two (2) years of recent related experience in the DTES providing care through a holistic mental health, substance use, and primary care lens; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
  • Experience working in the Downtown Eastside an asset.
  • Experience in change management an asset.
  • Ability to be culturally safe, culturally appropriate, and respectful with KL staff and members.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and maintain good working relationships within the team and with community partners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with EMR, preferably OSCAR, would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of appropriate acts, including the Mental Health Act, Adult Guardianship Act, and Public Health Act, as they relate to the rights and obligations of members and staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally-safe, trauma-informed, member-centered, harm reduction and recovery-oriented practices.
  • Experience and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous culture would be extremely beneficial. Completion of a cultural competency course or willingness to participate required.

Working Conditions:

Primary location will be one of Kilala Lelum’s sites on Powell Street.

Supervision Provided:

This position will receive support from the Allied Lead and members of the Allied Health team, including other Social Navigators and Counsellors, as well as the Primary Care Co-Leads, HR & Admin Lead, and Executive Director.

Additional Information:

  • Ideal start date as soon as possible to ensure sufficient training.
  • Hourly wage starts at $41.53 and will be determined with successful candidate based on qualifications and experience and in alignment with the KL wage grid.
  • Ideal days of work to be determined with the successful candidate to meet requirements of 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week).
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check.
